Wildlife Works manages a portfolio of current and prospective REDD+ projects throughout the tropics and is growing to meet market demand and interest in our innovative approach.

Based in Inongo, the Communications Specialist will find, collect, and write stories about the Mai Ndombe project for both local advocacy and communications objectives and for global communications content. This person will be in constant contact with all project department leads to keep updated on project activities and visit forest communities in the project area frequently to interview community members and source stories. This person will report to the the Wildlife Works Kinshasa Director, and will also frequently collaborate with the global communications team to coordinate and prioritize content development.


JOB OBJECTIVES

The objective of this role is to communicate project activities frequently, consistently and with storytelling quality with these overarching goals in mind:

  • Be a conduit and mouthpiece for community leaders and members to share their stories, culture, values directly to our audiences
  • Share the impact of the project on communities, biodiversity, forest
  • See current blog content


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regularly liaise with project department leads to get activity updates : visit concession area at least once per quarter, as needed
  • Regularly travel into the forest areas and interview and develop trusted relationships with community members
  • Identify community members who can be trained to be project spokespeople and storytellers
  • Write and film stories from activity updates and community updates and submit to Global Communications team for editing and distribution
  • Collaborate regularly with the Global Communications team to coordinate and what content to prioritize
  • Create content for local advocacy goals

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field is preferred
  • Lingala / French / English fluency
  • Background and/or passion for writing
  • Background and/or passion for community-centered conservation
  • Comfortable using a computer and online applications like Google apps, dropbox
  • Comfortable using / being trained to use digital camera equipment
