An ambitious maize and cassava farming project near Kikwit, DRC aims to produce high-quality crops on a commercial scale, contributing to food security and economic development. As part of our commitment to sustainable and innovative agricultural practices, we seek a dynamic and experienced Agricultural Expert to lead this large-scale start-up farm.
You will be at the heart of our operations, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the maize and cassava production process. This role requires not just agricultural expertise but a pioneering spirit to navigate the challenges of working in a remote and undeveloped region.
The results of your work are: Ensuring the crops meet high-quality standards suitable for both local consumption and commercial markets, contributing to food security and economic development. Creation of a strong team culture that fosters collaboration, efficiency, and high morale among staff members.
Key Responsibilities:- Operational Management: Direct all aspects of commercial-scale farming operations, ensuring efficiency and productivity in maize and cassava cultivation.
- Sustainable Practices: Implement advanced, sustainable farming techniques to enhance crop yield and operational efficiency.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage local staff, promoting a cohesive and productive work environment.
- Equipment and Infrastructure: Oversee the maintenance and repair of farming machinery and infrastructure, demonstrating proactive problem-solving skills.
- Progress Reporting: Provide comprehensive reports on farm progress, challenges, and opportunities to the headquarters in the Netherlands.
- Community Engagement: Engage with local communities and stakeholders, ensuring the project contributes positively to social development.
Requirements
- Agricultural Expertise: Demonstrated experience in managing commercial-scale maize and cassava farms, with a preference for candidates with experience in Africa.
- Leadership Skills: Strong capability in leading and managing teams.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English, with proficiency in French considered a strong asset.
- Technical Knowledge: Practical skills in agricultural machinery maintenance.
- Cultural Familiarity: Understanding of the African business and agricultural landscape.
- Adaptability: Resilient and adventurous, willing to live and work under challenging conditions.
- Communication: Excellent reporting and communication skills.
